Peugeot 207 Forum Poor radio reception - with RD4 N2

plex_dk 17.10.2006, 20:57
Hello

I'm sorry but I can't speak german language

I have a problem, with my Peugeot 207. I have changed the RD4 N1 to the N2 (MP3) version. Now the radio reception is so bad :-?

With the old N1, the radio reception was perfect.

Is the N2 version, only for vehicles with 2 antennas?

Do I need to switch back, and be without mp3?

I hope somebody can help me

Greetings from Denmark

Hello!

First of all you will have to check the connector of your antenna. Mostly there is no contact because it is not pushed in very well.
If it is not getting better, you could try to install a signal booster for the radio signal. its a tiniy amplifier that fits between antenna cable and radio unit and needs a +12V cable. But be careful! This car is equipped with a BUS System. Dont take power from the cables at the radio. take a new cable from the fuse box to be sure not to damage anything. Otherwise you could kill all ECUs.

Now to be sure: Did you install the new unit yourself?
If so - have you been at a peugeot dealer to enable the new unit?
This has to be done, because the unit will malfunction and create disturbing noise as theft-protection. This generation of car-radio has no more PIN Code. Instead, the serial number of the cars (ECU and chassis) is programmed to a non fluid EEPROM inside the unit. During Power on, the radio asks the car's ECU over a BUS about it's chassis number. If it doesn't match the internal one, it will create artificial noise and other problems. Sometimes it even won't power on.
The serail number only can be programmed at peugeot, with their special hardware diagnosis system.

best,
Sunny

Thank you for your reply

The radio has been installed by Peugeot, the radio is coded, and the antenna plug is correct mountet as well.

But this RD4 N2 has 2 antenna ports, and is intented for the twin tuner system...

I've heard, that the RD4 with MP3 is useless in a car _without_ 2 antennas - but I don't know if this is the correct?

I'm going to Peugeot with my car on friday.

Hello

Today I visited Peugeot, for inspection. Everything was set correctly - there was an option for 1 or 2 antennas.

So I have installed my old radio again - with great radio reception, but no MP3 :-?

The solution is an Ipod in the glove compartment, controlled by the stearing control 8-)

Have a nice weekend!
